Ph.D. program requirements
Ph.D. graduate students in immunology are required to maintain a grade point average of at least 3.2 (4.0 scale) throughout their graduate studies.
Degree Requirements depend on the degree sought and are detailed in the respective study plans for Ph.D. students and dual degree students (M.D. or DVM/Ph.D.)
For Ph.D. students seeking an additional Designated Emphasis all additional course requirements of that program must be met before the qualifying examination is conducted.
In addition, Ph.D. students in immunology are expected to:
- Present yearly a research poster at the Annual Graduate Group Retreat (2nd year and above).
- Participate in the events organized by the graduate group and actively engage in the various activities of the program.
- Sit their qualifying exam and advance to Ph.D. candidacy in a timely manner. For dual degree students that is usually by the end of the summer of their first year and for Ph.D. students by the end of fall quarter of their third year in the program.
- Meet regularly, but at least once a year, with their dissertation committee following their advancement to candidacy.
- Make adequate progress in their research project.
- Complete an exit exam and seminar upon submission of their dissertation. Seminars should be open to all and advertised to the group and the Campus.
- Submit a dissertation to Graduate Studies in a timely manner following approval by all members of the dissertation committee. This is usually done in years 5 - 6 of residence.
Master's degree program requirements
M.S. graduate students in immunology are required to maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale) throughout their graduate studies.
Degree requirements for required coursework are outlined in the study plan for Masters Plan I students.
In addition, Master's students in immunology are expected to:
- Present yearly a research poster at the Annual Graduate Group Retreat (2nd year and above).
- Participate in the events organized by the graduate group and actively engage in the various activities of the program.
- Form their thesis committee no later than the end of spring quarter of the first year in the program and meet regularly, but at least once a year, with the committee.
- Make adequate progress in their research project.
- Submit a written thesis to Graduate Studies following approval by all members of the thesis committee in a timely manner, usually within 2 years of study.
